NEW DOG FOOD FORMAT
Hill’s entered the refrigerated fresh-dog-food category in 2026 with Science Diet Single Protein Dog Food Rolls. The launch gives shoppers another format to compare with traditional dry and canned foods rather than automatically making fresh food the better choice for every dog.

What launched in 2026
Hill’s announced the refrigerated rolls on June 30, 2026, with availability at pet specialty retailers beginning in July. The launch includes single-protein recipes such as Beef & Carrot, Chicken & Brown Rice, and Lamb & Pumpkin.
Why the format matters
Refrigerated rolls change storage, serving and household routine more than they change the basic buying question. You still need to check life-stage suitability, calories, feeding instructions, ingredient preferences and whether the product fits your veterinarian’s recommendations.
Who may prefer refrigerated rolls
- Owners who prefer a fresh or refrigerated feeding format.
- Dogs that respond well to the texture and serving style.
- Households that can store and handle refrigerated food consistently.
Who may prefer dry or canned food
Dry food can be easier to store and portion, while canned food can be convenient for moisture and palatability without requiring the same refrigerated-roll handling. Cost per day, storage space and feeding consistency should be part of the decision.
Do not switch formats abruptly
Whenever you change foods, follow the transition guidance for the product and monitor appetite, stool quality and tolerance. Dogs with ongoing digestive or medical issues should be managed with veterinary guidance.
